Eve Dallas has just returned from a beach vacation, but she is quickly thrown into her next case.  Murder waits for nobody.  And, Eve is ready to dig in and find her killers.

Darryl and Ella-Loo are in love.  They would do anything for each other.  However, when a car-jacking goes south they discover that murder makes their bond grow stronger and their love burn hotter.  They have to keep killing to keep their high alive.  Which leads them on a killing spree across the country to their destination: New York City.  They have big dreams of city life, and it’s up to Dallas to crush them!  However, Eve and her team are on the clock to find the killers as they have just taken a new victim.  If pattern holds they’ll torture her for a few days before they kill her.  They have to follow the clues that will lead them to the murderous lovers hopefully in time to save a life.

This was an okay read.  It was easy to follow.  You knew who the killers were from the beginning so there really wasn’t much of a mystery to figure out.  And, honestly I think that made the story a bit dull and one-dimensional.

The bright spot of this book is definitely the characters and the growth that each of them have made in their lives.  A huge focus was on the growth that Trueheart has made as he prepares to take his detective exam.  And, in conjunction, the growth Baxter has made as a trainer and mentor.  He’s as nervous as Trueheart himself in this book as they wait to see what happens!  It’s kind of cute, honestly.

This was an okay book, heavy on the police procedural side of things so if that’s what draws you to this series you’ll love this one.  I think mystery lovers will feel a bit disappointed with this one though.
