‘Pretties/Uglies’ author Scott Westerfeld has released some art from his upcoming alternate history novel ‘Leviathan’, in which the Great Powers fight World War I with diesel-powered ‘walkers’, zeppelins, and ‘Darwinist monsters’.
The trailer is a handy way to sell books, but based on this, I’m ready to hand over my nine dollars for an eventual Leviathan feature film as well. Leviathan comes out October 6th.
The story deals with an alternate world where the major nation’s of Earth develop new and quite different ‘war machines’ during the conflict that we all know as World War I. Some nations use elaborate mechanical behemoths and other factions use gigantic animal like weapons in the war. The story primarily deals with the teen-aged son of Archduke Ferdinand and his female love interest who disguises herself as a man so she can serve in the Royal Air Force.
