burn-for-me-ilona-andrewsSummary:

Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile situation. Nevada isn’t sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.

Then she’s kidnapped by Connor “Mad” Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run and wanting to surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.

Rogan’s after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she’s getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

Review:

Author couple Ilona Andrews brings us a new and exciting world for their fans and new ones to read, the Hidden Legacy Series.

The first book in the series is Burn For Me. Here we see the main characters, Nevada Baylor, and Connor “Mad” Rogan, they exist in a world where magic and technology coexist together. This happened because in the last year of 19th century scientists created a serum called Osiris that awakened power in human beings. Over the course of the next years people did everything to get their hands in the serum but when they saw that it was getting out of control they locked it away. The damage was already done, children born from parents that have had taken the serum inherited the power also.  Now the oldest and strongest families have the control.

Nevada works as a private detective and has the ability to detect lies. Mad Rogan is a veteran and head of the Rogan House, which has the ability of telekinesis and a small touch of empath from his mother.

I really liked this first book, and the story seems very promising. The world also looks very interesting, the characters have magic, weapons, they write arcane circles, and the rarest abilities are quite fascinating.

The character that I liked the most was grandma Frida and her ability to understand machines, if I could I’d befriend her in a flash. Also, Nevada’s family was great, I’m intrigued to know what kind of powers Nevada’s two sisters and cousin have.

The way the Houses control the city is very fascinating and terrifying. You can see the difference in Rogan’s way of doing it from the other houses like Price and Montgomery. To imagine also this is possible because of a serum somebody created a long time ago is even more terrifying.

For fans of Ilona Andrews and readers that like series of magic and mystery crimes, I recommend you Burn For Me, where a person can move an object with his/her mind, melt a cube of ice, or give life to an animated object, everything is possible in this world. Let’s see how the Hidden Legacy Series develops.

Would you have taken the Osiris serum? What abilities do you think you could have gotten? Let us know in the comments.
