Review:

Black Rose is the third and final book in the series Obsession Inc. by Dori Lavelle. I strongly suggest you read book one and two of the Obsession Inc. series before reading Black Rose.

Black Rose continues the story where book two, Black Vows, left off. Emma is being transported via plane…but to where? Obviously, they are no longer on the yacht…so what is in store for her next?

“I’m still his prisoner with no promise of escape. He’s a ruthless murderer. He killed so many without blinking an eye. He killed his own mother. He would not think twice about killing me.”

Dax has now taken Emma to a secluded farm with an electric fence surrounding the property…no way to escape it seems. He definitely is not in touch with reality:

“I could have paid someone to renovate the farmhouse for us, but I figured it would be romantic to make it our own together, don’t you think?”

I should know better by now than to think Dax has already gotten as sadistic and dark as he could. This “lovely little farmhouse” has some mighty scary sh*t inside. I must applaud Emma for having the fortitude to fight – what a very strong main character, even in the face of a forced abortion. The psychological mind games that both Dax and Emma play are truly ingenious and at the same time – frightening. I was surprised that Emma still had the ability to fight, but family is a strong motivator. Did I say, family?  Yup….Dax lied previously (no shocker there) ….Emma’s sister Christa is actually still alive. Dax has kidnapped Christa as well and has brought her to the farm as their maid. It is torture because Emma is not allowed to address Christa in any way but as their servant. When that does not work out….Dax locks Christa up in a structure outside to….I suppose starve and/or freeze to death? Now that is definitely torture for Emma.

If you are afraid of snakes, sorry. Dax has outdone himself when it comes to snakes. They play such a pivotal role in this story. Ick is all I have to say. Not being a fan of snakes, those scenes were a bit creepy (ok…that is an understatement….a LOT creepy).

There are many ‘sick’ twists and turns, not surprising given that Dax is one of the main characters. Given the nature of these twists and turns, I will leave it to the reader to discover them for themselves.

I was riveted to this book from the first page. Glad it is only novella length because I am not sure I would be able to handle a longer book… it is that twisted and dark…and good!

Ms. Lavelle has done it yet again – a spellbinding, edge of your seat read. I can’t wait to see what she writes next.
