Book lovers can go to a Winnipeg movie theatre this fall to watch live interviews with two giants of popular fiction, it was announced this morning.

As part of a new series called TimesTalks Live, novelists John Irving and Stephen King will have “intimate discussions” with New York Times journalists.

SilverCity Polo Park is one of the Cineplex Entertainment theatres across Canada that will broadcast the 90-minute chats live from New York City, via satellite, in high-definition.

Oct. 28 at 9 p.m. Winnipeg time, Irving will converse with Times writer-at-large Charles McGrath.

Nov. 10 at 9 p.m., King will chat with Times book critic Janet Maslin.

Audiences can submit questions in advance to www.TimesTalks.com.

Advance tickets are available online at www.cineplex.com/events or at the theatre box office. Tickets are $16.95 (children $10.95, seniors $14.95).

I’m jealous, I love this idea and I wish my local theatre would do the same thing. Authors are a fascinating lot and I am interested in their process.

What do you think? If this event was near you, would you attend?
