Pamfiloff_Accidentally OverFor those of us who have waited with baited breath to see how our beloved series ends or the end of the world (running theme of the series), it is finally here.  Cimil (the guano crazy Goddess of the Underworld) has finally set the stage for the final scene.  She brings in Máax, the God of Truth into her vortex of insanity. She tells Máax that he is the one who can stop the apocalypse by going back through time to 1993 and saving the life of a mortal woman named Ashli.  But under no circumstances is he to bring Ashli out of 1993, or else there is no hope for the future.

Máax has broken the time travel rule enough times that he is being punished by the loss of his corporeal body. He is invisible.  Not only is he invisible, he is naked and invisible (since seeing clothes floating without a body tends to freak people out, he goes sans the clothes).  So all Ashli can hear is a disembodied voice that makes her think that Death is stalking her. There also just seems to be one small additional problem.  Every time he goes back in time, he somehow manages to cause Ashli to die (oopsie?).

What I love about this series is that it is consistently goofy fun.  This is not a series that someone without the appreciation of slapstick humor can enjoy.  In fact, the more “off-kilter” you are, then more the enjoyment.  It is its own special brand of chaos.

I also love the fact the Mimi actually gives us an ending that all of her readers can enjoy.  I daresay that almost all of her readers will be pleased with the wrap up. The cherry on top of the coo-coo sundae is that this ending also lays the groundwork for the spin-off series called Immortal Matchmaker. So we get to see more of the crazy characters we know and love!

I will say the only thing that I do not like is that if this is your first time reading this series, you will be lost.  These books definitely need to be read in order.  Reading one without the previous is like trying to learn a new language by someone just abandoning you in the country without any techno gadgets to help you along. You can gesture and try to draw pictures, but the full meaning will be lost.  Do yourself a favor and read them in order to get the maximum amount of enjoyment from the series.

So to you Ms. Pamfiloff, I award you 5 out of 5 stars with a PG-13 rating. Thanks for the crazy train, I enjoyed the ride.
