Jace hasn’t been the same since the love of his life, Taryn, disappeared in the night with her entire family nearly five years ago.  He doesn’t know why she left so unexpectedly or why she hasn’t reached out in all this time.  She obviously didn’t care the way he did, but he is still haunted with memories of her and he can’t let her go.

Taryn has been living in forced servitude to a drug kingpin, Boyd Walters, ever since she and her family were kidnapped.  Her dad picked up a drug habit after her mother died that left Taryn always finding ways to cover his debts and keep their family together.  Then, her brother picked up the habit as well.  They both got in too deep with Boyd and they all had to pay the price.

Boyd killed her brother and father right in front of her.  And, Taryn would do anything to protect her sister, Payton.  She sold drugs for Boyd to keep Payton out of any illegal activities so she could keep her innocence.

Now, Taryn finally has a chance to buy their freedom.  She has days to go back to her hometown to gather the half a million needed to pay off Boyd.  And, if she doesn’t return on time, Boyd will kill Payton.  But will he keep his end of the bargain?  And, is Payton even alive now?

Jace keeps thinking he saw Taryn, and he finally finds her.  He is so angry that she didn’t come to him on her own.  However, when he discovers what she’s been through he is determined to help get her free once and for all.

The last few books in the series, where a bit underwhelming for me.  But thankfully, this one has made up for that.  I absolutely loved this story.  I was really hoping it would be a good one, since Jace has been one of my favorite characters in the series for quite a while.  And Grant didn’t disappoint.

I loved how Jace and his friends banded together (as always) to help those in need.

I was a bit surprised this book didn’t touch more on Jace’s prisoner of war experience though.  But maybe that’s for the best.

And, there was quite the plot twist that I wasn’t expecting that shows just how evil one fictional character can be!

This was a great second chance romance story and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.  I have to imagine that it’ll be Ryan’s turn next … we shall see!
