Synopsis:A-Covert-Affair

The explosively passionate new Deadly Ops novel from Katie Reus, the New York Times bestselling author of Edge of Danger.

After being wounded in action, NSA agent Nathan Ortiz comes home to Miami, eager to return to duty. But he doesn’t expect his newest mission to lead him straight to the one woman he loved, lost, and has never gotten over.

A beautiful, successful restaurateur, Amelia Rios enjoys giving back to her community, especially to struggling women. Then a woman she recently hired stops showing up for work, and, unfortunately, she isn’t the first to go missing.

Soon Amelia finds herself thrust into a shadowy, dark world, working side by side with Nathan, the only man she’s ever loved. They must confront old feelings as they battle a ruthless enemy preying on the poor and weak. The heat simmering between Nathan and Amelia could mean a second chance for them—but first, they have to survive.

Review:

Nathan Ortiz is one a new assignment to try to stop women from mysteriously disappearing in Miami.  There have been a frighteningly large number of women who have quit their jobs, left their place of resident and simply vanished.  No sign of cell phone usage or credit card activity, no sign of them ever having existed.   Nathan is part of a task force that goes undercover to investigate.  What he does not expect is to find that a woman he was once involved with being on the arm of his biggest suspect.

Amelia Rios is at a fundraiser, the first date that she has been on in a while.  She likes her date but realizes there are no sparks for her.  But sparks start flying when she looks up at the fundraiser and sees a man from her past.  And not just any man, but the love of her life, whom she dumped many years ago.  She had her reasons, but she has never got over losing him.  When he is introduced by a different name, he is intrigued but knows not to blow his cover.

The characters are well developed and well rounded.  Amelia is a hard working tough woman who has overcome her past to become a successful restaurant owner.  She has not forgotten what it is like to be struggling and trying to get life on track, so she is very happy to help those who are also struggling.  When a couple of the workers from the restaurant are among the women who have disappeared, she is more than willing to help with the investigation.  She is pretty sure that she can trust Nathan in his investigative role but she knows she cannot trust him with her heart.  Nathan is willing to do whatever it takes to be sure that justice is served and those in need are protected.  He is well trained in spec ops and does not doubt his ability to get the job done.  But what he does not trust is his ability to protect his heart from Amelia.  She broke it once; he cannot let her do it a second time.

This book begins with explosive action and that intensity continues throughout the entire book.  It is impossible as a reader to not want to turn the pages as quickly as possible to see what action and suspense lies ahead.   Suspense, romance, and mystery are all woven together expertly to take the reader on a roller coaster ride while reading the book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well-plotted romantic mystery suspense.  There is enough action and adventure to keep the most avid adventure fan on the edge of their seat.  And there are plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing and wondering what would happen next.  I have read a couple of the books in this series and I have enjoyed them all.  Pick up a copy of A Covert Affair, sit back and enjoy the read.
