what-a-lass-wantsDescription:

In the Highlands of Scotland, danger and desire can be found anywhere—but finding them may lead to something much more perilous and passionate than anyone can handle.

Lady-in-waiting Caitrina de Montfort is in a terrible bind. With her sister held captive by a henchman of Edward Longshanks, she has been forced to spy on the dowager queen of Scotland. But the resourceful young noblewoman has a plan to set her sister free—until the arrival of a charming but steely-eyed courtier ruins everything.

Bran MacLean has made his living by his wits for most of his life. After stealing a valuable treasure, he evades pursuit by donning a disguise and joining the queen’s retinue. All goes well until the lovely Caitrina pilfers his loot and demands his aid in rescuing her sister. But their enemy is ruthless—and they soon find themselves facing a desperate choice between love and survival…

 Review:

Caitrina has been chosen by the Queen to be the guardian of her baby after it is born.. She considers this to be a honor however when she is approached by a cruel henchman Giric she goes into despair. He tells her that she must steal the newborn baby of the Queen or else her sister will suffer the consequences. Having presented Caitrina with hanks of her sisters hair Caitrina knows he will follow through with his threats. Desperate to save her sister and protect the Queen’s baby she develops a plan. She is aided when she finds a crown that has been hidden by Bran MacLean. Using the crown as leverage she engages him into helping find her sister. Neither are prepared for the ruthlessness and cruelty of Giric and although Caitrina realizes she is falling in love with Bran she knows she is putting him in grave danger. She knows that there also is a  problem with the fact that Bran does not come from nobility. With cunning and bravery Bran soon realizes that Caitrina is strong and brave and will do anything for the people she loves.

Bran Maclean is a common thief and is being pursued for the theft when he tries to hide the treasure. What he doesn’t realize is that Caitrina has seen him and recovers and re-hides the crown. She blackmails him into helping her rescue her sister however to do that Bran must get forged documents and become part of the Queen’s retinue. Caitrina is strong willed and Bran finds out that she will do anything to save her sister. The danger from Giric threatens both their lives. Bran must get Caitrina to trust him to save her sister and protect her from danger. Slowly he realizes that he is falling in love with Caitrina however knows that the union would be impossible due to the difference in their societal status. What Bran doesn’t count on is Caitrina’s ability to get what she wants. Love prevails in the end but not without a lot of intrigue and suspense.

I love the way the author allows Caitrina be strong willed and capable in a time period when women had little or no rights. The story also showed how vulnerable and dispensable women were in this hostile time period. The story flowed well and kept the reader’s interest from beginning to end.   It was a good historical romance to curl up with. I look forward to more books from author Rowan Keats.
