night-betrayed-ency-chronicles-joss-wareSelena knows a few things about death, as she is always surrounded by it.  Known as the Death Lady she helps those that are near the end pass on to the other side.  She also knows that inside each ganga is a human soul trapped inside and she has the only means to release them and give them peace.  So she goes out every night armed with her crystal to put an end to the suffering of every ganga she can find.  People don’t understand how she can have compassion for the monsters, which has led her to having an isolated life, living with the mother like Vonnie, Frank, and her teenage son, Sam.

While tending to the dying in her hospice ward in their home, Sammy and his friends bring Selena another dying man.  But there is something different about his death cloud.  He dies while she’s helping another patient to the other side.  But when she puts her crystal to the eye of his dragon tattoo on his back, his heart restarts, bringing him back to the land of the living.

Theo is nursing his broken heart while Selena is plagued with loneliness which brings the two together in an explosive way.  But Selena is haunted with feelings of rocking the cradle, if she only knew his real age!  Their biggest obstacle, however, is their disagreement on how to handle the gangas as neither can see it from the other’s point of view.

But when tragedy strikes, everything changes.  Will it bring them closer together or tear them viciously apart?

After witnessing Theo’s heartbreak over Sage, I was desperate to see a happy ending for him.  And, it takes awhile for him to truly achieve that in this book, but throughout you know that it’s just around the corner; be patient and it will come.  And, I enjoyed watching the relationship develop.

In this novel, we don’t get much advancement in the story arch as far as the Strangers and the Elite are concerned, but it’s worth it to have such a compelling story and one that will definitely be built upon.  We do, however, learn more about the gangas and their origins though.

I LOVED getting a glimpse of Zoë and Quent’s relationship.  I was concerned since their book is over that it meant we wouldn’t get to see them again, expect as secondary characters in the background.  But the little bit we saw of them put my fears at ease and I’m so excited for their future!

Another storyline that I’m really excited for is Remy and Wyatt!  The things that happened to her in this book are going to have long reaching consequences that the duo will have to overcome when they finally realize they belong together, which I know is going to happen!

I even see a little hint of a romance for Lou!  And, the last line of this book managed to both cement the promise of that romance and also to crack me up.  It was hilarious and had me laughing out loud.  The perfect ending to a great book!

If you haven’t checked this series out, you definitely should.  It started a little slow for me with the first book, but has quickly picked up and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next installment!
