FOOD IN FICTION: THE HUNGER GAMES, PART 1

Most of the food mentioned in The Hunger Games is eaten in The Capital; the one that comes to mind instantly is the stew that Katniss says is her favorite: “The stew’s made with tender chunks of lamb and dried plums today. Perfect on the bed of wild rice.” (pg. 113).

After Katniss and Peeta’s debut as District 12 tributes (after Katniss becomes “the Girl Who Was on Fire”), they eat a meal of  “Mushroom soup, bitter greens with tomatoes the size of peas, rare roast beef sliced thin as paper, noodles in a green sauce…” (pg. 76). I can only think of one pasta sauce that’s green, so I assume it’s pesto:
