branded-by-fire-psy-changeling-nalini-singhMercy has slowly watched all of the sentinels find mates.  The latest mating being that of her best friend, Dorian, has truly left her feeling alone and a bit of an outcast.  With her being such a dominant female, she isn’t sure if she will ever be able to submit to a male; forcing her into a life of solitude.

She ends up drowning her sorrows with a nice sexy roll on the forest floor with SnowDancer lieutenant, Riley.  But with this couple once is just not enough, no matter how hard Mercy tries to fight it.  It takes a strong male to handle her and Riley definitely fits the bill, but he’s a wolf and she’s a cat and that can never work…. can it?

“Can you two keep from tearing each other’s throats out during however long it takes to find Nash?” Lucas’s dry tone did nothing to hide the feline amusement in his eyes as he broke into her line of sight. “Or maybe I should be worrying about clothes instead?”

I adored this couple from the onset of this novel.  And, let me tell you there is hot steamy sex from the very first chapter all the way to end of the book!  Mercy was always a little too rough around the edges for me to have any connection to, but after reading this book; I feel that I at least understand her now.  And, I absolutely adore Riley!  He knows what he wants and he goes for it, but he is so incredibly sweet that I just want to eat him up!  I also love the Changelings as a whole and was excited to FINALLY see another Changeling/Changeling relationship in this series!  And, the wolf/leopard mix definitely makes things interesting…. I can’t wait to see when it comes time for kids with this duo if they will be having pups or cubs … or both!

“–she walked into her bathroom, stripped, and entered the shower.

The door opened a minute later to expose Riley standing there, beer in hand.

Scraping damp strands of red off her face, she glared at him. “I don’t remember giving you an invitation.”

“You said to amuse myself while you shower.” A slow, slow, deliciously slow smile.

It said gotcha

The threats to the pack keep growing now that the Human Alliance is making a stand and the Psy are always there to cause problems.  But really any moves from the enemies in this book really took a backseat to the unlikely romance of Mercy and Riley, making for a much more emotional installment, which I loved!

There are also changes afoot for another couple in one of the packs.  I immediately knew where Singh was going with it and I’m interested to see more.  It’s definitely a perfect time for it and I hope we get to see more of the journey to the end result in the next installment.  Praying that there won’t be a time lapse that would take that away from me!

This was a strong installment to the series, and I’d dare to say one of my favorite romances in the series so far, and I can’t wait to delve into the next installment, Blaze of Memory!
