Remember when the World War Z movie held such promise? Now, not so much. Paramount has released the synopsis for its film adaptation of Max Brooks’ seminal zombie war story, and people are not happy about the massive deviations.
The internet is rising up like a last-ditch offensive to stop a zombie army.
Here’s the official synopsis from Paramount:
“The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.”
As you can see, rather than taking place after the bloody Zombie Wars, this movie will be set during the beginning of the outbreak. And Pitt will be running around to try and stop it. So basically, it’s every zombie movie ever made that no one saw.

Agh! Why did they feel the need to do this? Did Brad Pitt feel like he wasn’t getting enough screen time? I seem to remember another Brad Pitt movie using the same format as the World War Z book (i.e flashbacks)…remember Interview with the Vampire? Since there is plenty of zombie action from the start, I can only assume Brad Pitt wasn’t on screen enough. sigh.
There are opinions from other internet sites in the article too, so be sure to read those.
Have to say that I agree. The book just doesn’t suit the movie format. Before The Walking Dead came along, I was praying that HBO would pick this up. I always had in mind that the Band of Brothers documentary style with the survivors talking about an incident before cutting to the flashback would have worked better. The battle of yonkers on it’s own is worth an episode on its own surely?
