WIL WHEATON ON ‘LEVERAGE’, ‘TREK’ AND COMICS

In this exclusive interview, Wheaton spoke to iF about his new role working with Devlin again, his thoughts about the new STAR TREK movie and his life as a TEEN BEAT pin-up in the ‘80s.

iF: You’re a big fan of comics and you’re been the voice of many characters on superhero shows – what’s your take on comics and comic book movie adaptations today?

WHEATON: I don’t think it’s possible to make a four-color superhero movie today. We used to joke in the ‘80s that Alan Moore and Frank Miller saved and killed comics at the same time. With WATCHMEN, V FOR VENDETTA and THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS. I was Cosmic Boy on the LEGION OF SUPER HEROES cartoon and I loved the LEGION when I was a kid. I hadn’t read it for 20 years when I got the job to do the voice. So I went and bought one of those D.C. archive hardback editions of old LEGION comics. And these comics from the ‘70s are so wonderful.

iF: What did you think of the new STAR TREK movie?

WHEATON: I absolutely loved everything about it. I thought it was wonderful. I wrote about it for “The Geek in Review” column I write for the Suicide Girls website. I loved the new STAR TREK movie. I had a lot of fun in it. It looked and sounded great.
