Synopsis:
Breezy Simmons was born into a ruthless motorcycle club—and now that she’s out, she’s never going to be that girl again. But when her past catches up with her, Breezy must go to Sea Haven to seek out the man who almost destroyed her. The man who chose his club over her and left her feeling used and alone.
As vice president of Torpedo Ink, Steele is ride or die for the brothers he lived through hell with. He never thought he’d find something as pure as his feelings for Breezy, or that keeping her safe would mean driving her away with cruel words that turned her love for him to ash.
Now, Steele won’t let her walk away twice. He’ll do whatever it takes to make Breezy his woman again—especially when he learns the real reason she came to him for help, and that the stakes are higher than he ever could have imagined… (Goodreads)
Review:
Although this is the second book in the Torpedo Ink series, this is actually the third story for a member of the motorcycle club and let me tell you that Vengeance Road is my favorite so far! The other two stories started off the series really great, but this book if filled with surprises that leave the reader wanting more.
Breezy Simmons has had a difficult life within her father’s motorcycle club, she was forced to do things she didn’t want to yet that did not stop her from taking care of as many kids in her same situation within the club. Her life changed when Steele joined the Swords along long time friend and brother, Czar, undercover in order to bring the club down. Breezy and Steele were together for a year until Steele banned her from the club in order to protect her because of their relationship. Three years have passed and Breezy is back to ask for help and warn Torpedo Ink about the Swords’ plans.
Looking back at the previous Torpedo Ink books and their female characters, Breezy has the most in common as main female character with her love interest. She was raised in an abusive environment and then, in a away, helped by Steele’s club to leave that life behind and start anew. Breezy becomes an independent woman who is able to get her G.E.D. while balancing work and life. When her life once more changes because of the Swords’ plan to bring Torpedo Ink down, she sets her mind to do everything she can to get herself out of trouble and only looks for Steele as a last resort.
What Breezy doesn’t know is that Steele has been looking for her ever since the events of Bound Together and Hidden Currents were solved. Steele had pushed her away because he didn’t want her in danger knowing that Torpedo Ink was going into war with the Swords. Steele, like the rest of his brothers and sisters, had never had someone special to care for until he met Breezy while undercover. Now that he knows that Breezy is safe he is going to try everything he can to get her back and her forgiveness.
The Torpedo Ink series is one of Christine Feehan’s book series with topics that deal with difficult themes. The stories talk about sexual abuse, kidnapping, human trafficking, drugs and alike, some themes of which readers heard of them in her other series but were introduced in the Sea Haven and Drake Sisters books to start off this series. In Vengeance Road both Steele and Breezy have been victims of abusive childhoods and understand one another. Breezy struggles with the idea of joining Steele and his MC not wanting to relive her childhood. At the end of the book, though still a little unsure, Breezy makes a new home along the Torpedo Ink members and begins trusting their MC life.
“Let’s get married. What’s mine belongs to you anyway. Not the bike, but the rest of it. All of it. It’s mostly got your name on it if it’s worth anything.”
This was a great book, with interesting characters, surprises and plenty of more information to look forward in future books. Readers still get mentions of past events and characters from Bound Together and Hidden Currents that could give us one of those big character reunions that only Feehan knows how to write! If you’re a fan of Feehan you can’t miss this book, it keeps you reading and at the edge of your sit from the moment chapter one begins.
