A new Battlestar Galactica television movie is coming to the SyFy Network.
The reboot of the classic space adventure Battlestar Galactica produced one of the best sci-fi shows to ever air on television. Recently, a prequel to the show called Caprica debuted that is nowhere near as successful as its predecessor was, but retains its intelligence.
Caprica takes place before the war between the evil Cylons and humans began. Part of Caprica’s lack of success is the lack of outer space fight action scenes. This new television movie will change that.
SyFy has greenlit the two-hour television movie, Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome. The movie takes place ten years after the war begins, which puts it about forty years before the Battlestar Galactica television series began.
The new show will deal with the early years of William Adama’s military battles. Adama, played in Battlestar Galactica by Edward James Olmos, will be cast by someone at least forty years Olmos’ junior. How that will translate is anyone’s guess.
“This is very much an action-adventure, war series,” said Mark Stern, Syfy’s executive vice president of original programming and the co-head of original content for Universal Cable Productions. “This is definitely dealing with people who are fighting the fight. … As you hope ‘Battlestar’ would do.”
