THERE’S NO FASTING AT TWILIGHT

It may be Ramadan, but one fan will yield to temptation to see the stars

Wazeem Khan should be at home with his family, fasting for Ramadan. But he has decided that sitting on a Vancouver sidewalk for 12 hours waiting to see the stars of Twilight is a once-in-a-lifetime chance, so it’s goodbye to prayer time with his folks. “My dad’s okay with it, I guess, but my mom’s pretty pissed off.”

By 4 p.m. Thursday, 18-year-old Khan and a group of friends had been sitting on the grass in the hot sun for eight hours, waiting for a glimpse of Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lauten or Kristen Stewart, the stars of the Twilight movie series.

Believe it or not, Khan has a life. The Surrey resident has just completed high school and now works full time at the Royal Bank. Still, he’s found the time to wear out his original Twilight DVD: he’s seen the movie at least 50 times. “People tell me to get a life, they say I’m a stalker, and I’m like, okay, yeah, I admit it.”

But persistence, for these Twi-hards, as they’re called, will pay off. At least that’s their hope.

I know how they feel – I’ve been at the set in Montepulciano and I also was happy about every tiny glimpse on the stars or news from the security-guys.
What do you think – is it kind of a wrong way of life to ‘stalk’ around a movie-set and hope to see, touch or talk to your heroes?
