Tyson Crawford gave up his title with the Lords to run Blackout on his own terms. His only request was to be able to choose his own bride, when the time comes. No initiations or games, just his lady and him. And, now the time has come to take his bride. He chose to cash his chip in on a revenge plot. To get back at the Minson family for all they have taken from him.
Laikyn Minson wasn’t exactly excited to be marrying Luke. However, when you’re a female living in the world of the Lords, you don’t get a choice. You’re nothing, but property to them. You just do what your told, if you want to survive.
However, when Luke goes MIA on the day of their wedding things change. Tyson shows up demanding to marry her in Luke’s place. The man that murdered her sister. And, her dad is going along with it!?! Demanding that she marry him and not embarrass the family. What her dad doesn’t realize, is that all Tyson wants is to embarrass the family. Making her work as a cocktail waitress at Blackout, wearing that skimpy uniform and turning her into his own personal whore.
Tyson expects Frank to retaliate against him, but he never expected them to come after Lake. He also never expected so many people were involved and the lengths they would go to hurt her. Now it’s up to him to protect his wife and end those who have had a hand in the plot against her. Can he prove to his wife his true feelings for her or will she only ever think of herself as his toy?
“Love? It doesn’t sound so foreign anymore. If loving someone means you’d burn the world to protect them, then I love her. It was never supposed to be this way. Me and her. But it doesn’t matter why or how we got here. Not anymore.”
I don’t know what it was about this book. I wasn’t excited to read it. I liked Tyson in the previous books, but his story just didn’t interest me. I feel like it *should* have though! Maybe it’s because he pales in comparison to the Spade brothers who are featured in book 5 and 6! I just want to skip ahead, but I’m trying to behave.
A good portion of this book, was uneventful really. It wasn’t boring, but there wasn’t a whole lot going on either and it fell a bit flat. Then, when the big twist hits, the twists kept coming and almost felt like it went on for too long. Too much going on. Like I’m ready for this to be over.
Tyson was an okay character. He wasn’t as big of a jerk as Sin was, for instance. However, he is a Lord so he is a bit of an ass. Although he no longer wears, his rose-colored glasses. He knows the horrors the Lords are capable of. He knows that sometimes they aren’t there to protect you when things go badly. His only insurance policy to protect himself and those he holds dear is himself. And now that he has something worth fighting for, he won’t let anyone take it from him.
Lake pushed her Lord more than the other girls have appeared to do, so far. She stole his credit card and bought a car … and not just any car … the most expensive lambo on the lot! That’s some balls girl, and I was really shocked how okay Tyson was over it all. Although she never fought him, on anything that was truly important. She just had an occasional brattiness to get out, but otherwise she seemed to not have much of a backbone most of the time.
Her family was a piece of work. It’s horrible what they were willing to put her through and for what? Money? I’m not even sure what their motivation was; their big gain. Maybe to not have to deal with her when they thought she was such a disappointment. Of course, it made no sense why they found her to be such a disgrace. She was doing what they told her to do.
We got to see Ryat and Blake again (and a few scenes with Sin & Ellington too). Ryat was not a big fan of Lake initially, but he was worried for his family. He did help Ty and her out though, in the end.
And, we got to see the Spades again. Yum! I’m seriously just counting down until I get to see them in their full and scary glory. There is one more book between me and them! We can do this!
