In the tradition of Amy Tan and Gloria Naylor, Dressler brings us a bold and heartfelt debut about a family of Dutch-lndonesian women who manage, despite their differences, to give one another sanctuary. Rich in culture and character. (Goodreads)

Review:

I’m not sure where to start this…this ebook was 89 pages, but it felt much longer. I couldn’t figure out if this was historically correct or not. I was confused from start to finish in this story.

Yes, there are some nicely worded sentences, but overall the flow was off. There were things that were written about that were so vague, it was difficult to figure things out and then the story would switch to a writing style that was so small and detail oriented that it slowed the story down.

I found this story interesting in parts but they were far and few between in this mostly bewildering story.
