Mae Wallace has worked at Bellini Weddings for the last few years as a wedding planner. However, things are about to get hectic. On top of the usual weddings going on at the winery, a movie is being filmed there! And, the Bellinis have asked Mae to be their liaison between them and the production company. Mae doesn’t like to be in the spotlight so is not excited for this new addition to her job, but will do anything for the family.
The movie is having delay after delay. The biggest setback being that their leading lady has been hung up with finishing up another movie. She’s going to be several weeks late. However, the male lead, Kane Austin, has noticed that Mae looks almost identical to Everly from behind. Mae quickly gets roped into being a stand-in for Everly so they can get some of the scenes, at least partially filmed.
After being hurt in the past, Mae is a catch-and-release kind of dater, not wanting anything serious. However, the more time her and Kane spend together that starts to change. The two start falling for each other. But will damaging info posted in the gossip sites bring it all crashing down?
I had wanted Burton to write this book. However, it didn’t live up to my expectations. It left me feeling a lot like I did with the first book, The Best Man Plan, which I didn’t like.
I found this book to be unrealistic. Mae found out her fiancé was cheating on her right before she was to marry him. It traumatized her so much that she gave up on love, on marriage. Yet, she makes a living organizing others’ weddings? That doesn’t make sense to me at all.
Mae and Kane seemed to have a lot of little blow ups that seemed to be almost nothing things blown out of proportion. And, then they were resolved really quick, too quick. It made me wonder why the issues were even brought up at all. And, it annoyed the crap out of me that Kane chose to keep his friend’s secret over clearing his name to the woman he supposedly loves, knowing it was going to destroy what they had.
I just couldn’t connect with this couple. I didn’t buy into their relationship, and the book seemed one-dimensional. I really hope if this series continues that the next book will be better.
