I rated this 3 stars because it was a confusing book to read, I actually went back and re-read the first few chapters because I had thought I had missed something. It had many interruptions that took away from the story and only confuses the reader.
This is about a woman name Oydessia, called Sia for short, whose husband, Jackson, went missing without a trace. It’s like he vanished in thin air, not a footprint to be found on the beach, no one saw him at the coffee shop and his phone said,”this person is not available to take calls right now”, how can that happen? Well it did.
Exactly one year, one month and six days of the date Jackson goes missing, Sia goes for her morning walk with Gumper, their dog and within a few minutes of her walk, Sia finds a man on the edge of the ocean, dripping from head to toe with salt water. As Sia gets closer she can feel the pain oozing from him and as a small child she felt empathy stronger than most people to the point that it worried her mother to no end.
She decides to take him home and try to find out who he is and where he came from but he just sat motionless in the chair in her kitchen. He would eat the food and drink the drink she sat in front of him but not a sound did he make. There is a nothingness in his face and as she washed his face she noticed scrapes and cuts and cleaned them.
She then decides to call the police and once again Sia is in the limelight of her small town, the last thing she wanted or needed. It was as if it was Jackson all over again except this time someone is found instead of lost.
When she lost Jackson, she shut off her life, family and friends and four months later her shell is started to crack and she opened herself a little more but now she has no choice. It takes her looking for this man’s family to finally let go of the pain and heartache of losing Jackson.
What happened to Jackson is finally realized from a most unlikely source.
