Halloween in Crystal Cove, California, is a big deal, involving a spooky soiree where the Winsome Witches, a fund-raising group, gather to open up their purse strings and trade superstitions. But party magicians, fortune-tellers, and herbalists are only the beginning of this recipe for disaster…
Jenna Hart has packed The Cookbook Nook chock-full of everything from ghostly texts to witchy potions in anticipation of the annual fund-raiser luncheon. But there’s one unexpected addition to the menu: murder.
When the Head Priestess of the Winsome Witches is found dead under mysterious circumstances, there’s no logical answer and plenty of blame to go around. With her aunt, Vera, unable to call on her ability to foresee the future, Jenna will have to use more than just sleight of hand and a few magic tricks to conjure up the truth…
Review:
Stirring the Plot is the third installment in Daryl Wood Gerber’s Cookbook Nook Mystery series. Each book is better than the last and they have all been wonderful. I wish there were more stars to rate it and that this book would have taken much longer to read. I did not want it to end. Each character is well written and the reader gets to know a bit more about them in each book. And the reader wants to be there with them! A truly fun storyline draws the reader in and does not let go.
Jenna Hart’s Cookbook Nook is filled with Halloween goodies. Books, witchy goodies, yummy treats in the ghoulish themes all abound in the store. Not only is the store ready for the big holiday, but the town of Crystal Cove, California is preparing for a celebration and soiree. The fund raising group the Winsome Witches (not real witches) had got all sorts of exciting events planned for everyone. Ghost rides, fortune telling and loads of fun bring everyone out to indulge and donate.
When one of the Witches winds up dead, there are plenty of questions and very few answers. Worst of all Aunt Vera has lost her ability to see the future. Several people have reasons for seeing the head priestess of the Witches gone, but not necessarily dead. The twists and turns in Stirring the Plot keep the reader guessing and thoroughly entertained.
Daryl Wood Gerber is one of the very best cozy mystery writers out there. And this installment is a true winner! I recommend this super book to anyone that enjoys a wonderful read. I know that I can not wait for the next in this series. It was a true pleasure to read Stirring the Plot and I can honestly say I think any mystery reader will love it as well. Thanks Ms Wood Gerber for writing such entertaining books.
