Synopsis:Something Like Love

IT’S GONNA BE A WILD RIDE

Ben Noble needs to do some damage control. Fast. His heart has always been in ranching, but there’s no escaping the spotlight on his high-powered political family. Now the only thing that can restore his reputation is a getaway to the fresh air of Aspen, Colorado. Not to mention that the trip gives Ben a second chance to impress a certain gorgeous mountain guide. But Paige Harper is nothing like the shy girl he remembers . . . she’s so much more.

Paige is serious about Ben, too: seriously annoyed that the playboy cowboy is using her mountain for his PR. Once upon a time, she fell for Ben’s aw-shucks charm, but the fairy tale didn’t end happily. Paige doesn’t intend to let down her guard again. But keeping their relationship all business and no pleasure may be harder than she thinks-especially if the moonlight, the Rockies, and a certain irresistible rancher have anything to say about it…(Goodreads)

Review:

Paige is somewhat of an outcast with her family.  They are as different as night and day.  Her family’s whole world revolves around the family business, a cafe.  Most of her family works there in one capacity or another.  Paige cares about her family and the family business, but it is not her passion.  Her passion is to operate a therapy program for quadriplegics, which would include horseback riding and whitewater rafting.  She is more at home with the outdoors and she truly believes her therapy program can work wonders with those in need.  She just needs to make her dream a reality, and she will do whatever it takes to do just that.    When her boss agrees to consider the program if Paige can impress an important client, she jumps at the chance.  She knows she’s good at her job as a mountain guide so it should be easy to impress the VIP client.  When she finds out exactly who that client is, she realizes it will be harder than anything else she has ever had to do.

Ben Noble is the VIP client heading to the resort, in an attempt to do damage control for his career.  After his name is smeared in the mud, he thinks a trip to the resort will put him in a better light in the public eye.  When he sees Paige at the resort, he’s not sure which will be a harder goal to accomplish: cleaning up his political name or winning the heart of someone from his past that he let get away.  Neither will be easily accomplished.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read.  The author is very talented in descriptive writing and she brings the scenery to life with the written word.  At times I felt like I was right there, watching the activities going on all around me.  I felt like I was transported from reality into the world that she created, and that is an awesome feeling.

The characters are well rounded, well developed and three dimensional.  Paige is a tough woman who has had heartbreak in her past.  She is hard-nosed but vulnerable and the combination made her seem even more real to me.  She is not afraid of hard work to realize her dream, but she is afraid of having her heartbroken.  She knows that if she let him, Ben could make her life complete or completely destroy her world.  And that scares her.

Ben is someone who does not want to let others down, his family, his friends or the citizens.  Know that he has let Paige down in the past weighs heavy on his heart and he wants to make things right with her.  He knows that it will not be easy but he not only wants to make things right, he wants to make Paige his forever.  The relationship took some time to develop and I appreciated that fact.

As in book one, the secondary characters are also nicely developed and there are some that you cannot help but dislike (when you read the book you will know exactly who I mean!!!).  I feel like they added quite a bit to the story and brought a whole other dimension to it.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well-crafted women’s contemporary.  I have read book one and I really enjoyed that one also.  I would suggest getting both books in the series, sit back and enjoy yourself.
