Today (September 1st) begins our first book club. Our staff has poured their hearts into preparing this book club for The Twilight Saga: New Moon. We are very excited to share our work with you. Each week day, we will post a new chapter for you to mull over, pick apart and discuss. Also included are characters involved, places visited, significant events, memorable quotes and discussion questions.
Please join our forum and participate. Also on the horizon, our Twilight affiliates participate in the New Moon book club. Check back to see how they enhance this month’s book club.

Chapter 1 Party

Chapter One begins with a strange dream in which Bella’s long-dead grandmother appears to her. Gran and Bella look at each other and smile. Just then, Edward appears in the dream and calls Bella’s name. Bella panics because her Gran is unaware of Edward’s secret. Edward approaches Bella and Gran and sparkles as he passes through the sunlight. Bella is looking at her Gran and realizes then that she is looking into a mirror. She has not been looking at her Gran, but at herself as an old woman, standing next to the never-aging Edward. The dream ends with Edward telling Bella “Happy Birthday” and kissing her. It is Bella’s 18th birthday.

Bella quickly gets ready and heads to school, where Edward and Alice are waiting for her in the parking lot. Bella becomes agitated at the sight of Alice holding gifts. Alice skips over to Bella and wishes her a Happy Birthday. Bella quickly shushes her and reminds Alice that she didn’t want any gifts. Bella finally reaches Edward, who promises not to tell her Happy Birthday.

After school, Bella and Edward go to her house and he mentions how bad the reception on her truck’s radio is. Once at home, they begin to watch Romeo and Juliet together. Edward admits to having a back-up plan when James was hunting her; he would go to Italy and provoke the Volturi to kill him. Bella is upset with Edward’s admission and tries to convince him to promise he will never consider it again.
