Fence was of the tour guides that took Quent, Elliott, and Wyatt on the expedition into that Sedona cave that changed their lives forever. The earth trembled and the oceans raged leaving the world as they knew it in shambles, even after their 50 year sleep, the world hasn’t fully recovered.
The men along with Simon, who was also found in the cave, have become great friends and have stuck together while trying to figure out what happened and how to move on with their lives. They have met some new friends along the way and have been welcomed into the Resistance, where they try to figure out how to end the Strangers once and for all.
Fence is the dark handsome playboy of the group. With a killer smile and some smooth talking there isn’t a woman alive he hasn’t been able to talk into his bed. But all of his womanizing ways are about to be laid to rest when he meets his very own sun goddess, Ana.
And, Ana definitely feels an attraction for Fence as well, but she has her own secret to hide. She is half Atlantean, a fact that shames her after discovering the part they played in the Evolution. But once Fence discovers her crystals embedded in her skin, she can no longer deny it. But surprisingly it doesn’t send him running for the hills.
After witnessing a friend drown, and having a near death experience in the water himself, the idea of swimming gives Fence paralyzing panic attacks. But, can he overcome his fear to save the city he’s grown to love and come to the love of his life’s aid?
This book was not my favorite of the series, but it was still good and the great world building continues with the underwater world of Atlantis. I think my biggest hang-up with it, was that I just didn’t really like Fence. His cocky ‘I can have any girl I want’ attitude and cheesy double entendres (that weren’t even remotely funny) got old really quick. And, I don’t feel that he was as well-developed as the other guys in the series have been. And, overall I just didn’t find him swoon worthy, which made it hard for me to relate to the love story of this book.
This is another installment in the series that doesn’t really advance the Strangers storyline, but instead looks at the other arm that caused the world to be devastated; the inhabitants of Atlantis. You may think of Atlantis as a beautiful water oasis with nice friendly mermaids, but that is not what the Atlanteans are in this story. They are a rough mean society that only has their own interests at heart, making it easy to see why Ana had run away from that life. And, I’m still not completely sure what they were hoping to gain from what they eventually do to her in this book.
But again love wins out and the book ended on a nice sweet note.
We again got to see glimpses of Zoë and Quent, where she *Finally* tells him what she’s been keeping from him! And, we also see a little more in the Remy and Wyatt storyline. I’m excited that Remy and Wyatt are the focus of the next book, as I find their story to be pretty interesting and I know it will be an emotion packed journey that I can’t wait to delve into!
