CW gives early pickup to ‘Vampire Diaries’ and four other series
The CW, seen in Northeast Ohio on WBNX Channel 55, tipped its hand for fall plans Tuesday, giving early pickup orders to rookie drama “The Vampire Diaries” and four other series.
Based on the young-adult novels by L.J. Smith, “The Vampire Diaries” has become the CW’s most-watched series (averaging 4.6 million viewers). It stars Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert, a Virginia teenager who falls under the spell of the Salvatore brothers , vampires Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder). Kevin Williamson (“Scream”) is the executive producer for the series airing 8-9 p.m. Thursdays.
Also renewed for the 2010-11 season was the CW’s other Thursday supernatural series, “Supernatural.” Starring Jason Padalecki and Jensen Ackles as the Winchester brothers, the 10-11 p.m. drama will return for a sixth season in the fall.
