TV NEWS 9/15 NELSAN ELLIS TRUE BLOOD, GAMES OF THRONE, TERRA NOVA & SUPERNATURAL PREVIEW

Nelsan Ellis (‘True Blood’)

Lafayette’s gay, but he’s not a stereotype, is he? Have you had any reaction to that?

“I’ve not had a press conference with the gay community, so I can’t really speak for the gay community! But various gay men have come up to say, ‘I’m glad he’s not a stereotype, but why does he have to be a prostitute? Because that’s a stereotype. All gay men aren’t sex-hungry’. They’ll say that, but many of them like that he’s a strong gay character, and they say they’ve never seen that before. He’s completely fearless and multi-level.

Do you think Lafayette will ever become a vampire or a supernatural creature?

“I think he will become a supernatural creature. I would love him to be a werewolf.

Have you read the Charlaine Harris novels which True Blood is based on? Lafayette’s quite different in the show, isn’t he? Do you like that?

“I’ve read seven. I need to read the last three. When I read the first book and the second book, it made sense that that Lafayette died. You get this brief description of him and I just didn’t like him because that character was so one-dimensional and stereotypical, that that Lafayette wasn’t attractive. Alan Ball’s Lafayette was attractive to me because it was so different.

HBO Brings Fantasy to Adults With “Game of Thrones”

If you watched the “True Blood” season finale you may have caught the cryptic teaser, prominently featuring a raven, for HBO’s upcoming series “Game of Thrones.” I didn’t find it to be particularly impressive, but the show itself looks like it will be the next completely out of control fan-berserk series taking it’s place next to the likes of “True Blood” and “Deadwood” before it.

The casting so far is almost impeccable. I know this because, aside from being addicted to IMDB, I’ve read two of the books in George R.R. Martin’s colossal fantasy novel series on which the show is based. Sean Bean is everyone’s first choice for Ned Stark. You couldn’t dream of a better Tyrion Lannister than Peter Dinklage. Jason Momoa may suck as “Conan” but he’ll be the perfect Khal Drogo. There are four books already, with seven planned, and “Game of Thrones” covers only the first book. So, if this first effort is a success, we could be in for quite a few seasons.

Stephen Lang in talks to join Fox’s Terra Nova

One of Hollywood’s preeminent baddies may join Fox’s time travel drama Terra Nova. A key insider confirmed a report on Deadline.com that Stephen Lang — last seen shooting up the blue natives in Avatar — is in talks to play the merciless leader of a prehistoric settlement.

The project has already lured Jason O’Mara (Life on Mars) to play Jim Shannon, whose family is part of a group of settlers who travel back in time.

Production on Terra Nova, which has yet to complete the casting process, isn’t expected to begin until October in Australia.
