Courtney Andrews has had a crush on her brother’s best friend, Kaede, for years! Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that he even notices her. But when he comes to her for help, she can’t turn him down. Especially when what he needs is for her to pretend they’re engaged!
Kaede has had a thing for Courtney for a while now, but she’s Ross’s baby sister which puts her firmly into the off-limits category. Especially now that the two friends have started their own business together. But when Kaede and Ross’s potential investor makes it clear that he expects Kaede to date his slut Barbie daughter he does the only thing he can think of … lie! He tells them that he’s engaged and when they ask who, Courtney’s name is what slips past his lips. Something that doesn’t exactly please his best friend!
Kaede and Courtney have tried to suppress the feelings they’ve had for each other for years. But what happens when they have to pretend to be in love? Will the two finally give in to their forbidden desires or will one brother/best friend get in the way? Can the two pull off the biggest charade of their lives or will they crash and burn in spectacular fashion?
This is a sequel to My Big Fat Fake Wedding, but it can easily be read as a stand-alone.
This book did have a slow start, but once Courtney and Kaede committed to their scheme, it was a pretty good read. I absolutely loved Kaede! He came off so genuine and loyal. It really bothered him how his growing attraction to Courtney would affect his best friend. But some attractions you just can’t fight and he soon realized he was a goner, consequences be damned!
“When this all goes to shit and my best friend rightfully punches me the fuck out, takes my company, and kicks me out of his life, I’m going to remember this moment right here. The moment it all seems worth it.”
Her lips start to lift, and I tell myself that I’m doing the right thing. The right thing for me, for once in my damn life.
“With you standing in front of me, back straight, fire in your eyes, hair a mess from my hands, and that ring on your finger. When that happens, help me remember, okay?”
Courtney nods, licking her lips and moving into my space. She presses me into the counter with her body, bare tits pressed to my chest and hope in her eyes.
Hope for me. For us.
And it’s beautiful and sweet and all I ever wanted.
“It’ll be okay, Kaede. It’ll be finer than fine, I promise.”
Sure, it will. I nod, even though I don’t believe her. I’m only risking … everything. Court might lose some face, and yeah, Ross will be mad at her. But she’s his sister. He’ll forgive her.
But he legit might kill me.
I kiss her anyway, signing my own death certificate.”
Kaede has such a sweet side. I loved his date and fake proposal. You could tell that he put a lot of thought into everything he did, even if it wasn’t supposed to be real!
Courtney was a great character as well. She was strong and in control and doesn’t take crap from anyone. Not even her big brother! Once she decides what she wants, she’s 100% in and completely goes for it.
We also got to see some of the characters from the previous book: Ross, Violet, and Archie! But again reading that book isn’t something you need to do to make sense of this story.
“I can’t believe you told Nana that you made this cake,” Violet admonishes him.
He shrugs, not caring in the least. “Well, I made the money that I bought it with, so that’s almost the same thing. And it’s good.”
Overall this was a really great story. I look forward to seeing what Landish comes up with next, as it appears Abi just might be getting a story of her own. And, I’m sure it will be a hoot! Maybe she could be the Big Fat Fake Pregnancy or something. Time will tell! I look forward to delving into the story regardless!
“Abi snaps her fingers. “Focus, here. Now for those of us in here who are ignorant of certain facts, or pretending to be, you know who sends flowers? Men who got fucked or who fucked up.” She holds up one finger and then another, giving the two options. “So, which is it? Did our mysterious Kaede fuck up so badly that he had to call my first thing this morning to order flowers? Or is your vajayjay so good that he was calling me for ‘thank you for letting me into your lady cave’ flowers? Which is it? Are we mad at him, because I’ve got a compost pile if we need to ditch his body, or is he the latest addict to the Courtney cream?”
