Fans of urban fantasy, short fiction or de Lint in particular will be happy to get their hands on the fifth and newest collection of short stories set in de Lint’s fictional town of Newford. Though the stories themselves aren’t new (two date to 2001), many are rare and hard-to-find gems of the Newford mythology, like Refinerytown, previously published only in chapbook form by de Lint’s own Triskell Press.
The collection is a wonderful assortment of de Lint’s engrossing signature magic-meets-everyday-life storytelling. Avid fans will be particularly delighted with such tales as Somewhere in My Mind There Is a Painting Box, which offers a glimpse at the 17-year-old version of Lillian, the little girl who was turned into a kitten in the de Lint/Charles Vess children’s book collaboration Circle of Cats.
