FILMAKERS REACT TO AVATAR

James Cameron’s Avatar has been unleashed upon this world. We’ve run reviews from half of the /Film staff: David Chen, Brendon Connelly, Russ Fischer, and Hunter Stephenson. You might have even added your own mini-review. But you might be wondering, with all the talk of game-changing advances in the tech side of filmmaking, what do the writers and directors in Hollywood think of Avatar? Here is a round-up of quotes:

TITANS CLASH IN 3D

While sitting down with the Los Angeles Times to discuss his latest release Avatar, actor Sam Worthington made some interesting comments in regards to his next action-adventure Clash of the Titans. He revealed to the paper that Warner Bros. Pictures and director Louis Leterrier are going back to shoot more scenes in the near future, add more gods to the film and it’s looking like the film will be translated to 3D formats.

“The studio is also letting us add some gods and scenes. And they’re talking about making the movie a 3D film.”

‘MARVIN THE MARTIAN’ PREPARES FOR LIFTOFF

The Na’vi may be protecting Pandora this weekend, but come Christmas 2011, Marvin the Martian will try to destroy things here on Earth.

The Looney Tunes character is getting his own movie — and now that movie has a director and writers, and could soon even have a star to lend Marvin his voice. Warner Bros. and producer Alcon Entertainment (the company behind the fall sensation “The Blind Side”) are bringing aboard a director named Alex Zamm to oversee the misadventures of the cartoon alien. Zamm is an up-and-comer who is also signed on to direct “Hong Kong Phooey,” the film version of the 1970s Hanna Barbera cartoon (that movie, from some of the same producers, could still happen, but probably not before the Marvin film).

THE CRAZIES FEAR THY NEIGHBOR POSTER

You can checkout the new poster which the studio just sent our way for the remake of the Crazies. I kinda like it. It lacks a wow factor but it does make the point well of what the film is about. A small farm town over-run by a plague that makes the local town folk go bonkers.

“Crazies” revolves around people in a small Kansas town who are beset by a virus that causes insanity and death after a mysterious toxin contaminates the local water supply.

It seems everyone is in agreement…Avatar rocks! I have yet to see the film, but it is surely on my priority to-do list. I’ve been hearing amazing things about the film. Have you seen Avatar yet? Are you in agreeance that it is the best thing since sliced bread?

Here we go again with 3D. I don’t know why I am so anti 3D. Maybe it’s the fact I have to wear those silly glasses or my eyes take at least 20 minutes to adjust. I don’t know…but I gather whatever makes the film a more enjoyable experience for the masses can’t be all wrong. Do you enjoy watching movies in 3D? Which do you prefer, standard or 3D?

Marvin the Martian as a movie…hmmm…I scratch my head on this one. Personally I think that it is best left to stay a cartoon, but who am I to say. What do you think?

Ahhh, The Crazies.  I cannot wait till this hits theaters. With every new movie poster, my excitement level rises. Are you anticipating The Crazies as much as I am?
