CHRISTOPHER LEE ON MODERN HORROR MOVIES
In late November the 2009 Science+Fiction Festival was held in Trieste, Italy. This happening is an international science fiction event dedicated to exploring the worlds of fantasy, experimental languages, and new technologies in film production, television, and visual and performing arts.
Most of the movies and lectures were concentrated on science fiction and fantasy, but there was quite a good share of horror related happenings. While the majority of attendees were psyched that cyberpunk guru Bruce Sterling was presiding over the international jury, I was mainly interested in visits by two legendary horror icons — Roger Corman, who was just awarded with an “early” honorary Oscar, and Sir Christopher Lee, who had recently been knighted during the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

IRON MAN 2 TOPS THE LIST OF GEEK FLICK PICKS FOR 2010
The past year was a good one for movie geeks, as the adaptation of the supposedly unfilmable graphic novel Watchmen made it to the silver screen and the Star Trek franchise received a reboot. Fanboys flocked to theaters to see Wolverine: Origins continue the superhero movie trend, if not to the exalted reviews received by 2008’s The Dark Knight.
IT played a strong role behind the scenes, with numerous releases, including Monsters vs. Aliens, Up and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, relying on computer-aided animation. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, District 9, Where the Wild Things Are and Avatar seamlessly blended digital effects with live action.

RYAN KWANTEN’S JASON STACKHOUSE GETS A NEW LOVE INTEREST
Another day, another True Blood casting scoop. We’ve already heard about new vampires, werewolves and shape-shifters rearing their supernatural heads in the backwater town of Bon Temps, but this time, we’re not exactly sure what kind of beast we’re dealing with.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Lindsay Pulsipher, recently seen on “The Beast,” is joining the third season cast of “True Blood” in the recurring role of Crystal, who is described as “a mysterious and haunting beautiful young woman who shares an ‘electric connection’ with Jason.

IS PETER JACKSON ADAPTING THE ‘MORTAL ENGINES’ NOVEL SERIES?
Peter Jackson loves books, and books love Peter Jackson. The Oscar-winning director has already put his signature stamp on the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy and ‘The Lovely Bones’, and in addition to his upcoming producer work on ‘ The Hobbit’ it appears that Jackson is bringing yet another novel series to the big screen.
The Dominion Post has heard that Jackson’s Weta Workshops is quietly adapting Philip Reeve’s ‘ Mortal Engines’ science fiction novels for the big screen.
