AMC MAY BOYCOTT TIM BURTON’S ALICE IN WONDERLAND

Looks like the inhabitants of Wonderland aren’t the only ones revolting against an evil tyrant. Theater owners across the world are reportedly none too happy about Disney’s recently announced plans to push the DVD release date of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland up to within 12 weeks of the theatrical run, and they’re doing something about it. Disney hopes to increase sales of the DVD by having it out in time for the summer, a full 5 weeks earlier than the usual theatrical-to-DVD release window. In response, several cinema chains have threatened to boycott the film, voicing concerns about a potential loss of big screen revenue.

It’s mid-June and a Chicago-area stage has been taken over by nightmares.
Freddy Krueger is nowhere to be seen (he’s back in a trailer half-way between being former “Bad News Bears” star Jackie Earle Haley and being a monstrous nocturnal stalker of attractive high school students), but walking around the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” facilities from small set to small set to small set, his handiwork is everywhere.
There’s an elemental theme to the rooms we’re passing through.
In one set, there’s a classroom that only barely survived an inferno. The air smells like charcoal and everything from the desks to the books to the ceiling tiles appears charred.

IAN MCSHANE SET FOR PIRATES SEQUEL

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – British actor Ian McShane, who gained notice Stateside for his villainous role in HBO’s “Deadwood,” is in talks to play Blackbeard in the fourth installment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.
“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” stars Johnny Depp, reprising his role of Captain Jack Sparrow, and Penelope Cruz, Sparrow’s foil and equal in many ways, in a tale revolving around the Fountain of Youth.

Sigourney Weaver was well into the publicity tour for Avatar when the movie’s creator, James Cameron, said something that threw the unflappable actor for a loop.
“Jim was telling someone about how sci-fi had always gotten a bad rap, and that maybe now that would change,” Weaver recalls. “And I thought, ‘Science fiction? Really? Is that what this movie is?’ Because to me it’s just a great story that happens to take place in another time.”
