LIONSGATE LIKELY TO BUY ‘TERMINATOR’ RIGHTS FROM HALCYON
Halcyon’s descent into bankruptcy has been public for nearly six months now, but it seems that a realistic bidder has finally emerged for the one worthwhile property they own: Terminator. Deadline Hollywood revealed today that Halcyon has selected Lionsgate as the “stalking horse bidder” for the franchises’ rights. Don’t know what the means? Don’t worry, I didn’t either. Nikki Finke explains: This allows the distressed firm to avoid receiving lowball bids on its assets. That said, I hear Lionsgate will be named the stalking horse bidder in the bankruptcy sale of the Terminator franchise. Sources tell me it wasn’t a competitive auction. (Sorry, Joss Whedon, your $10,000 offer for the rights didn’t cut it.)”

JAMES CAMERON REVEALS PLANS FOR ‘AVATAR’ SEQUEL
Before it hit theaters, Avatar, which has amassed $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office, seemed to many in Hollywood like a crazy gamble. But not only did director James Cameron always believe that the film would be a hit — he was even planning a sequel during production. “I’ve had a storyline in mind from the start — there are even scenes in Avatar that I kept in because they lead to the sequel,” Cameron says. “It just makes sense to think of it as a two or three film arc, in terms of the business plan.
