Interview: Andrew Garfield Says Playing Spider-Man Is Every Skinny Boy’s Dream
Source: cinemablend.com
Andrew Garfield was trying to answer questions while eating a chicken and broccoli and salad, and was surprisingly good at it. While he wouldn’t admit that the super healthy lunch was the “Spider-Man diet” — “I mean, it’s food that I’m eating”– he was surprisingly open about answering questions about his gigantic upcoming role when I caught up with him earlier today in Toronto to talk about Never Let Me Go during a roundtable interview. His answers were vague, of course, and he insisted repeatedly that it’s still early stages of planning between him and Spider-Man director Marc Webb– but for an actor who swears there’s nothing to talk about yet, he still had plenty to say.
He repeated again that the character meant a lot to him as a child–“It’s given me so much hope as a skinny little streak of piss, who feels more powerful inside than the looks on the outside.” He compared his plans for working on it to the way he tackled Never Let Me Go with Mark Romanek or The Social Network with David Fincher– “I’m going to approach it with the exact same thing. It’s another role that I just want to play.” He also confessed it will be “very cool” to meet Stan Lee and name-checked a whole lot of different Spider-Man comics series to prove he truly knows his stuff. And this has nothing to do with Spider-Man, but he was also wearing a Back to the Future watch. Check out what he had to say below, and come back later for much more from him, his Never Let Me Go collaborators, and all the rests from TIFF 2010.

Exclusive: Bilbo the Brave? Hobbit casting details
Source: theonering.net
We recently got our hands on what we think is some authentic Bilbo casting and production information which seemed to contradict something we knew with absolute certainty: The Hobbit production wanted Martin Freeman for Bilbo and has since as long ago as last year. Seemingly at odds with that fact was apparently concrete casting details about Bilbo and actors still giving audition tapes. Was the role sewn up or not?
A spy has provided an exclusive clue or two about what the role of Bilbo will be like and even a plot detail and a production outline but we were reluctant to report it because of apparent contradictions, but with all the recent Freeman news, it now fits in context. And yes, you have to read on. This is news you must work for, at least a little bit.

Actor set to return as Gandalf

FILMING on The Hobbit, the long-awaited prequel to The Lord of the Rings, should start in the new year, according to former Bolton School boy Sir Ian McKellen.
“The aim is to start filming in January,” he said.
The actor is slated to reprise his role as the wizard Gandalf, for which he received two Oscar nominations, but has said he wouldn’t be “sitting waiting” for shooting to start.
In the meantime the actor is filming in the archives of The Lowry, in Salford Quays, for a new documentary about the painter.

At last, the recently-popular trends of dark children’s story movies and movies based around generic Halloween costumes are converging: here comes Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters! Mark Millar On Kick-Ass 2
Source: empireonline.com
We did an interview recently with Mark Millar, the writer of Kick-Ass, and asked for a few tidbits on his planned sequel. Now there’s no word yet on whether that will ever make it to the screen, but here’s what Millar has planned.
“It’s gangs going all over New York filming atrocities on their cell phones and putting them on the internet, trying to outdo each other, all at the behest of Red Mist. My idea for Red Mist was to introduce a supervillain that made Heath Ledger’s Joker look like Cesar Romero’s Joker. He’s basically Charles Manson as a supervillain.”

Whenever I hear “The Hobbit” these days, I either brace myself for bad news, or get ridiculously happy. I’m glad things seem to be moving forward with it, and hope that it continues to do so! (I also think Martin Freeman is a great choice for Bilbo! And YAY Sir Ian McKellen!!)
