Maybe it was the NBA Playoffs, or maybe, the endless amount of BBQs going on, or just the choice of movies out. Whatever it was, the weekend box office recorded the worst Memorial Day weekend numbers in 17 years, said reports.
This happened despite two new major releases, “Prince of Persia” and “Sex and The City 2”, both failing to top the weekend’s choice of films.
Instead, it was “Shrek Forever After”, winning its second weekend in a row with $55.7 million over the long weekend.
The second spot was a close race. “Prince of Persia,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal, landed at #2 with an opening of $37.8 million; while the highly anticipated “Sex and The City” sequel debuted at #3 with $37.1 million.

If you’re only familiar with superheroes like Iron Man and Fantastic Four because you saw their movies, you may be a little puzzled about all the buzz going around about the Avengers. You may have sat through the credits of Iron Man 2 and been baffled by the giggling and cheers you heard while looking at a hammer on the ground. This is your chance to catch up on the Avengers.
What is the Avengers?
The Avengers are one of the most popular and powerful super-teams in comics. Published by Marvel Comics, the team began its run in September 1963.
How did the Avengers get their start?
The team came together by accident; supervillain Loki tried to kill Norse god Thor by luring him into combat with the Hulk. However, the conflict also drew in Iron Man and two lesser-known superheroes Ant-Man and the Wasp. In typical superhero fashion, the five of them fought each other before joining forces to defeat Loki. They decided they worked pretty well together as a team and called themselves the Avengers.

M. Night Shyamalan is famous for bringing us films like “Sixth Sense”, “Signs” and “Lady in the Water”. Now he’ll head up a new Summer film called “The Last Airbender” a sci-fi/fantasy flick full of martial artistry and huge effects. It’s got relatively unknown young stars, so this could become the martial arts and sci-fi type Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings series. It’ll be interesting to see how fans react and if it grows a new fanbase.

So, okay, a new trailer. That often happens with exciting summer movies, especially comic book-related blockbusters. This one has a little more going for it, though, in that A.) It’s tremendous fun and B.) It tackles the biggest hesitance that fans of the Scott Pilgrim series are holding. One that could make or break the movie through word of mouth alone.
