Jenny was enjoying herself on the swings when Azula, one of the guardians of the playground came to take her away.
Together they journey to a cinder building where Jenny must make a powerful decision.
Review:
This is a powerful short story that gives the possibility of justice for victims of crime. Jenny is playing on the swings with her two puppies close by, and all is well until Azula, a guardian comes and gets her. She was given the puppies after her death for comfort and they have stayed by Jenny’s side since. As Jenny and Azula enter the cinder building the puppies turn into full grown dogs and Jenny meets her killer. He tells Jenny he has been born again and has been forgiven for his crime and will be going to heaven after his execution. Jenny at that time sees her mother and realizes why and when her mother cried. When the killer makes her mother cry again Jenny must decide the fate of his soul.
I was amazed at how the author developed the characters and made the victim’s story as well as those who were left behind resonate in the minds of the reader. I also thought her use of the dogs was brilliant. In this world were violence is so prevalent it would be nice to know that the victims would have some say as to whether the criminal would go to heaven or hell despite their so called “rebirth into Christianity”. It is a well written short story that I thoroughly enjoyed and I will certainly recommend it to all my friends. Kudos to the author Talia Haven for writing it!
