Review
Mae has just suffered a tragedy. Her only family member, Rhoger, has died. Mae is not ready to give up without a fight. A family friend, Tallah, has told her about a magical book that could bring him back. So, she’s keeping Rhoger’s physical body iced while she hunts the book.
On her search for the book, she encounters a huge fighter, Sahvage. She accidentally distracted him which gave his opponent time to slit his throat. She worried he was the man she was looking for that had information on the book and went back to save him. However, she did not expect him to use her blood to find her. Now she has a big strong bodyguard just in time to fight the strange shadow creature that she may have accidentally unleashed trying to summon the book.
Sahvage can’t help, but to remember the last time he tried to protect a woman. It didn’t end well for his cousin, Rahvyn. He can only hope to be able to save Mae this time. And, protect her from the new evil that is haunting Caldwell.
I wanted to like this book, but honestly, I didn’t like Mae at all. She seemed pretty selfish. She only cared about what she wanted, bringing her brother back. She only saved Sahvage because she thought he’d had information on the book. And, when he tried to destroy the book, she was going to shoot him. Sahvage was way too much of a pushover. I couldn’t get invested in this couple at all and I felt Sahvage deserved better, to be honest.
I found Nate and Elyn much more interesting, so wholesome and sweet, but that seems to be going nowhere. And, I’m also interested in Balthazar. Anybody, but the main couple, at this point.
I’m not sure what to think about this new evil in Caldwell. I have to assume she will re-surface after some healing.
Hopefully things get more interesting as I thought this book was kind of dull and read way too slow.
