Review
The hockey season is over, and it was an especially brutal ending for the Vancouver Agitators. Like every season, Silas Taters and his close-knit group of friends from the team go to his ‘cabin’ in Banff for some relaxation.
This year their arrival is followed by a massive storm and torrential downpours. The weather not only delays their chef from arriving, but also sends Winnie Berlin’s Mini Cooper into a ditch. She sees the light on in the cabin and shows up looking to use the phone. The guys (well besides Silas) can’t turn the poor girl out in this weather so they invite her to stay until she can get her car out. However, it could take days to get a tow truck out there.
The Agitators’ goalie, Pacey Lawes, takes an immediate interest in Winnie. However, he can’t shake the feeling that he knows her from somewhere. She seems so familiar to him. By the time he realizes that it’s his estranged half-brother, Josh’s, ex he’s too far gone. He knows he should tell her, but he can’t bring himself to. He doesn’t want to lose his chance with this girl. Josh never deserved her anyway.
However, the truth eventually comes out, as it usually does, and in a rather explosive way. Now it’s up to Pacey and his fully invested group of friends/teammates to try to win her back. But will Winnie ever forgive him?
Another series I’m reading completely out of order. I read book three, Right Man, Right Time and liked it enough to decide to start the series from the beginning. So here I am. I’m a huge hockey fan and always love finding a good hockey series.
I enjoyed Pacey and Winnie quite a bit. The banter between them was a lot of fun as well as their sweet moments too. And Winnie’s friends Max and Katherine were a hoot. I’m starting to wonder if every couple in this series is going to have a gay best friend though.
I thought it was dumb for Pacey to keep the Josh thing a secret, but I didn’t think it was nearly the big deal that it got blown up to be in the book. Granted, if Pacey hadn’t lost his shit over it, maybe it would have been different.
I love how his friends banded together to win back ‘their’ girl though. It was super cute.
This was a decent read, but I definitely liked Right Man, Right Time better. Maybe it would have been different if I had read the books in order though. It’s a fun series regardless though.
