Synopsis:
Weird as it is working for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, Evie’s always thought of herself as normal. Sure, her best friend is a mermaid, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours, but still. Normal.
Only now paranormals are dying, and Evie’s dreams are filled with haunting voices and mysterious prophecies. She soon realizes that there may be a link between her abilities and the sudden rash of deaths. Not only that, but she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.
So much for normal.
Review:
To use a phrase from the book, Paranormalcy is BLEEPING awesome! I had so much fun reading this novel, I just couldn’t put it down until I was done! Full of sarcasm, spunk, and kick butt girl action!
The main character is named Evie. She’s a sixteen year old teenager who likes to believe she’s just an ordinary girl but in reality is far from it. She works for IPCA (International Paranormal Containment Agency) tagging and bagging paranormals. Equipped with a taser she has aptly named Tasey and can usually be found dressed in pink, Evie was a hoot! Kiersten White did a wonderful job of narrating through Evie’s voice creating a female character that is smart and fierce. She is also VERY sarcastic and has her own since of style (I REALLY want her boots)! Evie had me cracking up so much throughout the novel! As you read, you end up feeling like she’s your best friend.
Of course, no young adult novel would be complete without, you guessed it: boys! There are two main leads: one is named Reth who is a very naughty faerie and the other is named, Lend who is a shape shifter. Reth is straight up dark and mischievous. He has his own agenda for why he wants Evie and he refuses to let anyone get in the way. Lend is absolutely the hottest, most adorable thing ever! He’s the type of boy you could take home to your mama (well, if your parents wouldn’t get freaked out having a shape shifter as a son-in-law *hehe*).
Kiresten weaved the romance between Evie and Lend, as well as the back story of Reth and Evie’s deceased romance, into the action filled plot very well. The characters are well developed. The setting is just enough to help you picture everything without feeling as if you’re mind is being bogged down with too much detail and the pacing is wonderful. The story flows with tension, suspense, and great humor.
I also really loved Evie’s relationship with her best friend, Lish, who is a mermaid. You can tell how much they trust and respect one another. They both treasure each other. It was a heartwarming part of the book to experience their friendship.
Paranormalcy is a laugh out loud, full of sweet romance, and lively action type of book, you’ll just be absorbed into the story from the first sentence.
Go out and buy this bleeping book! Trust me, you will definitely not regret it!
As for me, I think I’ll go take another ride into Evie’s world because really, it’s just the type of book that demands a second time around *smiles*
