Alexander Skarsgård, the evil, increasingly nuanced vampire leader Eric Northman of ‘True Blood’. He sucks blood and he stars in Lady Gaga’s video for “Paparazzi” as an abusive, ill-fated boyfriend.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do in Sweden?
AS: I go out to a country house and hang out with my family and I try to spend a couple days in Stockholm to hang out with my friends from my childhood.
Q: On the new season of ‘True Blood’, your character has come out of the shadows.
AS: After  season one a lot of the reactions were, “Oh, you’re the bad guy,” and I’d always have to defend Eric, because there was so much more than just being like, the badass vampire leader.
Q: Is the show popular in Sweden?
AS: Season one already aired. But I was surprised when I came back to the States … I was detached from all the hysteria.
Q: And from the paparazzi?
AS: Oh yeah. In Sweden we don’t have paparazzi.
Q: Speaking of which, you were in the Lady Gaga video.
AS: I’ve known the director, Jonas. I didn’t know Lady Gaga at all before.
Q: Did you coach her on the Swedish lines?
AS: We were supposed to do that whole thing in English, but then she heard us talking in Swedish and she’s like, “Whoa, why don’t we do it in Swedish?”
