Cookie Chanel has opened her own vintage clothing boutique, It’s Vintage, Y’All, in the charming town of Sugar Creek, Georgia. Always on the lookout for stylish second-hand steals, she attends the estate sale of deceased socialite Charlotte Meadows. But she gets a lot more than she bargained for when Charlotte’s ghost appears before her–offering fashion advice and begging Cookie to find out who murdered her.

As the persistent poltergeist tags along and a possibly psychic pussycat moves into the shop, Cookie sorts through racks of suspects to see who may be hiding some skeletons in the closet. Review:

A light cozy murder mystery which simply had to be devoured in a day, I could not put it down.  And that is the sign of a good mystery, at least in my book 🙂 .

Charlotte, the recently deceased main character of the story (and ghost I might add) has some definite ideas as to how Cookie must approach the solving of her murder.  Charlotte is NOT above nefarious means to get Cookie to work on solving the murder!  Cookie Chanel is the amateur sleuth seemingly “picked” by Charlotte to solve Charlotte’s murder. The connection develops between the sleuth and the deceased at Charlotte’s estate sale.  Cookie attends sales such as this to locate and purchase vintage items for her clothing store, It’s Vintage, Y’AllHeather is Cookie’s best friend.  Heather’s psychic and mixes natural herbs for spells at her store, right next door to Cookie’s clothing store.  Heather pulls out a tool of her trade, Ouija board, as a means of communicating with Wind Song (a recent feline addition to Cookie’s household) as she feels that cat may be psychic?. Detective Dylan Valentine is the hunky guy of the book. I must say it really seemed like Cookie was doing all the work in this murder investigation, he was there to show concern for Cookie and in the end arrest the murderer.

Every chapter begins with either Heather’s Heartfelt Tip for Getting Rid of an Unwanted Ghost” – Ghosts sometimes have unfinished business here on earth. That’s why they hang around. Help them write a letter or send an e-mail and that should tie up any loose ends, or with Cookie’s Savvy Vintage Fashion Shopping Tip – Don’t be afraid to tailor a vintage item to fit you. Ill-fitting clothing will take away beauty from the piece. “ These are priceless nuggets which set the tone for each chapter.  I looked forward to the beginning of each chapter!

Cookie works with Charlotte in identifying the people that were in Charlotte’s life to figure out who might have wanted her dead and their motive.  At times, Charlotte is pushy and overbearing…but in a really funny way.  A few good chuckles were had as a result of some of the antics Charlotte was up to.  I enjoyed the fact that Cookie was a strong female lead in the story.  She runs her own business, is involved in the community and worked on solving this murder.

I found the writing easy to read and very descriptive of both the town and the clothes that Cookie either had for sale or was in her personal collection.  The mystery kept my interest until the very end.  I will definitely continue on in this series and with this author in general.  I want to see if the interest between Cookie and Detective Dylan continue 🙂 .
