Synopsis:
She’s covered in blood and on the run.
Months before the events of ALL GOOD DEEDS (Book 1 of the Lucy Kendall thriller series), Lucy Kendall is still adjusting to her secret life as a vigilante killer of pedophiles. She’s circling her next target when a desperate teenager begs for help finding a friend lost in the foster care system.
Jaded and still stung from her experiences with Child Protective Services, Lucy searches for the missing girl and discovers the teen’s foster parent lying dead in his kitchen.
Lucy knows the police will arrest first and ask questions later. Determined to save the runaway before she hurts someone else, Lucy sets off on her own investigation.
The stakes are high, and the consequences may be too dire to survive.
Review:
I must say, I have never been disappointed by Stacy Green and her writing, and I am happy to report this title is no exception. It is interesting to actually take a step back in the sequence of the Lucy Kendall series and read this prequel to All Good Deeds after having read the first three books in the Lucy Kendall series.
The reader is taken back in time when Lucy’s departure from Child Protective Services (CPS) is still fresh. As a disillusioned social worker, Lucy is now on her own dispensing justice to those she sees as unworthy and having escaped punishment through the traditional route (pedophiles) or just have not been caught as of yet. Interesting since Lucy is herself a killer. How can she make the call who should be punished and who should not?
Lucy is scoping out the next predator to dispense with and she recognizes ‘Shannon’, a young woman (who is in fact too young to be in the bar). Lucy approaches Shannon. Through discussions, Lucy finds out that a close friend of Shannon’s, Monique, is missing. Wanting to help Shannon, Lucy embarks upon the task of finding out what happened to Monique. There are many twists and turns (a few caught me totally off guard)….but isn’t that what makes a great mystery? Keep the reader guessing and engaged.
I really enjoyed getting a bit more background on Lucy and her motivation for her actions. It is odd to want to cheer for Lucy and what she does since she is in fact a serial killer herself….going after pedophiles. This additional background adds some needed depth of story to the series.
As always, I enjoy the writing of Stacy Green and will wait patiently for the continuation of this series. Or I may just have to continue on reading other titles by Stacy Green as I enjoy her style SO much. A quick, enjoyable and well written addition to the Lucy Kendall series.
