Review:
In true Stacy Green fashion…..this book is captivating. I just could not put it down!!! Literally! And WOW. Okay, now to expand upon my review ☺
Gone to Die is the third installment of Stacy Green’s Lucy Kendall psychological thriller series. I must say, it is in my mind, the best of the three. The depth of character that Lucy has grown into is great. The tale begins with Lucy struggling to come to terms with killing two people.
“I killed two people last month. They weren’t the first. But they were different……..
I didn’t kill Jake and Riley because they didn’t deserve to live. I killed them to save myself. The person I used to be-the person I thought I was-is trapped somewhere in the abyss of guilt and anger, and I don’t know if I can escape. I think I want to. At least, some days I want to.”
While she is reeling and in the throes of depression, Chris is patiently (okay…not really patiently) waiting for Lucy to make good on her promise to go after Chris’ mother – serial killer Mary Weston. Just as Lucy is pulling herself up and getting back to business, we find that Chris was not so patient and took matters into his own hands. He had set up a meeting with Mary…and now he is missing. In fact, during the last message he left Lucy, there is a gunshot and then nothing. Throughout, Lucy is filled with remorse that she was not able to help Chris when he asked…if she had…he might not be in this situation. But don’t be fooled…there are some secrets Chris has kept…!!!! A bit creepy if you ask me actually.
I found the hunt for Mary Weston very well organized. Right from the gunshot, Lucy calls Detective Todd Beckett for assistance (as opposed to going rogue). I really enjoyed their interactions. You get a sense that Todd knows of Lucy’s previous actions, which are not on the right side of the law, but accepts what she has done AND why. And certainly the WHY explains how Lucy has managed to get away with her actions.
Her struggle to reclaim her conscious is compelling and her drive to find Chris is all consuming. She even brings Kelly out of her seclusion from people to assist in the hunt. I loved that Kelly has healed enough to allow this excursion into the world.
And Mary….her story is TWISTED…and riveting! And I thought in the last book her story could not have gotten more sick.
This was a fast paced, sit on the edge of your seat; bite your nails psychological thriller. If you enjoyed the first two books in the series, then you need to get this book!! However, I highly recommend you read the first two books in this series first, though it could be considered a stand-alone novel. By reading the first two books, you will understand a lot more of the background and characters.
I WANT to give this book more than 5
I will wait with baited breath until the next in the series comes out (I certainly hope there is a next book)!
Thank you for such an amazing review! Gone to Die was tough to write for many reasons, so it means a lot to hear the wonderful things in your review!
