After a life of living in her deceased sister’s shadow, even going by *her* name, K.C. never thought she’d come back to her small town of Shelburne Falls after leaving for college. But she got herself in trouble over her very public confrontation with her now ex after she caught him cheating … again! But now she’s back to serve her court-ordered community service tutoring kids over the summer at her former high school. Her mom wouldn’t allow her to stay with her, sullying her reputation, so she’s staying at her friend’s house. Unfortunately that means living next to the very hot Jaxon Trent for the summer!
Jax can have any girl he wants, but the only one he really wants is the beautiful K.C. And, with a little maneuvering from him, she’s well in his grasp once again. He’s made a name for himself in their small town. Running the races at the Loop, doing some slightly illegal work for Fallon’s father, and he even has the police in his pocket. Allowing him complete freedom to do whatever he wants!
But what happens when what he wants with K.C. has the potential to turn a bit more serious than a little ‘summer fun’? Can he handle it or will the tortures from his past ruin it all?
This is the first book that I’ve read from this author and it’s the third installment in the series, but I had no trouble understanding this book and it can easily be read as a stand-alone. And, I must admit that I really enjoyed this story and hope that Ms. Douglas decides to continue the series.
Jax is the perfect cocky friends with everybody ladies’ man kind of guy that I always fall for in books! Flirtatious and fun, and I can’t help, but be drawn to him. Like a moth to a flame.
I understand that K.C.’s family struggled with her dad’s mental health after her sister’s tragic death, but I was floored with the life she had to endure, living as her sister. It’s pretty twisted!
But sadly Jax had his own horrific past to overcome, making this duo meant for each other, in my opinion!
“I wrapped my arms around his waist. “You called me your girl.” I nodded, waggling my eyebrows. “And,” I continued, “you’d better believe this little wallflower will cut a bitch with that knife of yours if anyone lays a hand on you.”
Although it did feel like Jax was sabotaging the relationship at times and you just wanted to smack him!
And with Jax’s voyeuristic ways and always starting something in places that they probably shouldn’t, (the carnival fun house, school etc.) this book is not for the faint of heart. There are definitely some steamy sex scenes to be had!
Some of the events at the end of the book were predictable, especially where Jax’s father was concerned, but it didn’t make them any less enjoyable.
As I’ve already stated, I did really enjoy this book and hope to read more from this author in the future! So if you like a good smutty romance, with an engaging storyline, grab this book, sit back and enjoy the ride!
