Revenge is a dish best served cold. Although a few side dishes of warm revenge to tide you over to the main course is perfectly fine, as well.
From the outside looking in, Debbie appears to be your average housewife. She has a perfect accountant husband that loves her and two teenage daughters, who can be trying at times, but are perfectly normal. She loves tending her beautiful garden, and she also writes an advice column for the local paper.
However, things are starting to go awry in Debbie’s family. The girls are acting strange. Lexi is increasingly difficult and hateful toward Debbie. And, easy-going Izzy has been kicked off the soccer team. Her husband, Cooper, has been sneaking off to God knows where. And, now Debbie just lost her job at the paper.
Debbie is a smart cookie, and can fix anything, if she puts her mind to it. Some might call her ways devious, but those that are in the wrong deserve to pay.
I was hesitant to read this book, even though I have enjoyed some of this author’s works. I absolutely loved The Inmate for instance. Maybe it was the innocent looking cover, on this book that gave me pause. Speaking of, I had those scissors, at one point, it really makes me wonder what ever happened to them.
Anyway, I ended up really enjoying this book. I liked the messed-up Dear Debbie answers that were in her draft folder. I felt she was talking directly to me on the one about the snoring husband lol.
Debbie did not take crap from anyone, and it was interesting to see how she plotted against everyone that did her or her family member’s wrong. But that Jo Dolan had it coming … Debbie was completely unhinged, in the best overprotective taking care of business kind of way.
And the twist, at the end, was interesting as well. At least it put Cooper in a better light. I do love a good revenge story, especially when you can get away with it!
