Colt Cavanaugh has grown up in the Grey Wolf pack. He has worked his way up in their army and currently holds the title of high commander. However, he’s living a lie. He wasn’t born a Grey Wolf, but was sired by one of the members or an enemy pack, The Wild Eight. The previous packmaster found Colt when he was a child grieving over his dead mother and took him in. James claimed Colt was his son from a previous affair and Colt swore he’d never let anybody know the truth. If his pack ever found out he could lose everything he holds dear.
Belle Beaumont was born a rogue and has always longed for a family and pack. That desire led her to being tricked into becoming a part of the Wild Eight and being shackled to an abusive alpha wolf. There is a price on her head and she’s on the run, but during her escape she runs into Commander Cavanaugh. He ends up saving her from a group of vampires while suffering great injury to himself. She can’t just leave him there, so she takes him to a nearby rogue house to give him the treatment he needs.
While trying to flee Belle overheard the vampires discussing their plans to abduct Colt. Colt insists that Belle come back with him to tell the others what she heard. He offers to clear her name and get the price removed from her head so she can finally be free. The only catch is that she’ll be going with the appearance of being Colt’s prisoner!
Colt and Belle have an instant attraction to one another. Colt doesn’t do relationships, but offers a night of passionate sex. One night together pushes both of their boundaries and changes everything. Belle would do anything to have a pack of her own, but giving in to the feelings he has for Belle, could cause Colt to lose his!
This is the first book I’ve read from this author and so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was just in the mood for a werewolf shifter story. I found the start of the book to be rather slow, but once things started heating up between Belle and Colt I didn’t want to put the book down!
I enjoyed Colt which shouldn’t be a surprise to anybody who knows me or follows my reviews because I’ve said it numerous times: I love the cocky male leads in my books! Colt did have morals though and a soft side to boot.
Belle was a tough character as well. She’s been through a lot in her life and Colt definitely put her through things as well!
This book has some great secondary characters who I look forward to getting to know in the future. I loved the banter between them all. You can see how much of a family the Grey Wolves truly are with how they interact with one another.
This was a really enjoyable read and I didn’t feel I was missing anything by not having read book one of the series. I hope to continue this series in the future and get to know these cowboy soldiers even more!
