Beware!!  It’s a bumpy-spoiler-filled road ahead!

Chosen picks up about six weeks after Bedeviled left off.  Kyana is getting used to sharing her temple and her bed with Ryker, both of whom have their full god powers now.  Haven is being kept in the healing circle to finish her cleansing.

Kyana wakes from a horrible dream to find the ghost of Haven’s twin sister, Hope, staring at her.  She warns Kyana that ‘he’ is coming and that they must hurry.  Ryker (who also sees Hope) and Kyana rush off to check on Haven.  They get her out of the building right before it implodes, burying some inside.

Haven tells Kyana that she is feeling Cronos and that she is having strong dreams of him.  So they visit Morpheus, the God of Dreams, so that Kyana can connect to Haven’s dreams.  What they see is shocking.  Cronos is digging up graves to bring the deceased back to life and build his army.  It’s even more terrifying once they realize that it’s happening in real life, not just in Haven’s dreams.

Cronos is back and has one thing on his mind; destroy Olympus and all its inhabitants so that he can rule all three realms.  Now the gods must band together to destroy this threat, but it won’t be an easy battle and lives will be lost.  Do Ryker and Kyana have what it takes to survive?

I have read all three of the Dark Breed novels back-to-back, and I have to admit that I’ve gotten pretty bored with the storyline.  Here, we are at book three and we’re still facing the same problem; Cronos.  It just doesn’t seem much has changed between each book and the whole thing is getting pretty tired and dull.

I did, however, enjoy the more personal scenes.  For instance, learning more about Ares and his past with Ryker’s mother.  It was nice to finally have it proven that Ares isn’t the jerk that Ryker always thought he was.  I was a little surprised to learn that Ares is indeed his father though.  With all the talk of Zeus’s treatment of women and the few remarks of Ryker’s resemblance to him (before he had all of Zeus’s power) in the previous books, I really thought that was where they were headed with it.  I’m glad to hear that wasn’t the case as I like little surprises in my reading.

Cronos raising Kyana’s human husband was pretty predictable, but I still enjoyed the scene.  Especially when her savior rode to save the day once again.

And, I truly thought with all the fertility talk that we would find out at the end of the book that Kyana was pregnant, but it never got to that.  There was too much else going on.

One thing I really didn’t like was not so much the return of Henry, but the position he gained in this book.  I felt it was just a little too far-out there to expect the gods to accept him as a chosen after being a dark breed that they had hunted down and killed and then him being brought back to life by their biggest enemy.  I didn’t feel he had any ill intent while reading the book, but if I had been one of the gods I wouldn’t have trusted him.  They didn’t even take him in front of Jordan Faye to verify his intent.

Also, what happened to immortal meaning someone can’t be killed or are at least hard to kill?  These seem to be the weakest immortals I have ever seen.  I truly thought that once the characters came into their full god powers that they’d be a bit tougher.  The way the book is written they seem to be able to be killed as easily as Haven or any of the other witches or mystics, if you can get your killing blow in between there spurts of magic, you can kill them.

I really did like the ending of this book, but it just wasn’t enough to make up for left over storyline.  I’m curious to see if this is the last installment to the series or not.  The main conflict was wrapped up, but I feel that there is more story to tell.  I don’t think that this book is the end for a certain character that was killed in battle that I have grown to really enjoy, or maybe that’s just wishful thinking?  I also feel the possibilities are still open to Haven as well and that there might be a new romance brewing for her.  And, let’s not forget about Ryker and Kyana whose relationship is just starting to grow.

I do hope that this series continues and that with a new storyline this series can be revived and be better than it has ever been.
