BOOK NEWS 9/28 CORNELIA FUNKE INTERVIEW AND DENISE VERRICO INTERVIEW

Inkworld author to meet readers

Why did you choose such a dark genre for Reckless?

Cornelia said: “It was Lionel Wigram’s idea to set the story in a 19th century fairytale world grown up – almost like what would happen if technology came into the world we knew from the Brothers Grimm. The original fairytales are very dark but often there are strange hidden truths in them. With fairytales you can have fairy curses, evil witches and sleeping beauties as well as terrifying underworld creatures, such as the stone-skinned Goyl in Reckless.”

Interview with Denise Verrico author of The Immortyl Revolutions Part One

Question: How did you come about writing books and what made you choose vampire books?

Answer: About the same time I started writing plays, I started Cara Mia. I wrote a few plays before I got serious about finishing the novel. I’ve always loved vampires. My favorite show as a little kid was Dark Shadows. In the eighties and nineties I read a lot of Anne Rice. Vampires are like dark superheroes. I was always drawn to the sense of otherness about them. Their immortality, eternal youth and super powers were really cool to me as a kid. As an adult, I was attracted to the sense of being on the outside of society, living off the grid and observing the spectacle of the mortal world.
