Chapters 1-2
Summary
While awaiting for Kalona’s spirit to return to his body, Neferet found pleasure in the young warrior Kronos. After dismissing Kronos, Neferet got the sudden urge to visit Kalona’s empty shell. A son of Erebus stood in Neferets way not understanding why she was always going to his body since he isn’t actually there. Even though the son was hesitant at first, Neferets icy gaze made the warrior step down and allow her to pass. As Neferet laid next to Kalona, she reminded him of their plans and of the oath he swore to her. While she was going on about how he will not fail, Kalona’s body started shaking and his spirit was returned. The sons of Erebus helped move Kaolona outside and up to the buildings rooftop. To Neferet all that matter was that Kalona did not fail and Zoey Redbird was dead.
Quotes
“You asked what you’d done to displease me and I told you: you’re breathing. And in much too close proximity to me. That displeases me.” – Neferet, page 2
“It was your quest, Neferet. Never mine. You forced me to return to a realm from which I’d been banished. What happened was predictable: Zoey’s friends rallied about her. With their aid she healed her shattered soul and found herself again.” – Kalona, page 12
“Do not mar him permanently. I plan to enjoy the beauty of his skin again.” – Neferet, page 14
Questions
Do you think Neferet subconsciously thought Kalona was going to ‘fail’ his quest? She seemed to have to remind herself and the darkness over and over again that he would not fail.
The High Council is no where near Tulsa, so why do you think Neferet feels the need to hide her relationship with Kalona?
Kalona doesn’t seem to upset that he did not kill Zoey, why do you think that is? Do you think the experience of being in Nyx’s Realm again and seeing Nyx just drained him to much to care?
