Amy Plum
Die for Me
Revenants, Book #1
Review brought to you by OBS staff member Shae
Summary:
My life had always been blissfully, wonderfully normal. But it only took one moment to change everything.
Suddenly, my sister, Georgia, and I were orphans. We put our lives into storage and moved to Paris to live with my grandparents. And I knew my shattered heart, my shattered life, would never feel normal again. Then I met Vincent.
Mysterious, sexy, and unnervingly charming, Vincent Delacroix appeared out of nowhere and swept me off my feet. Just like that, I was in danger of losing my heart all over again. But I was ready to let it happen.
Of course, nothing is ever that easy. Because Vincent is no normal human. He has a terrifying destiny, one that puts his life at risk every day. He also has enemies . . . immortal, murderous enemies who are determined to destroy him and all of his kind.
While I’m fighting to piece together the remnants of my life, can I risk putting my heart—as well as my life and my family’s—in jeopardy for a chance at love? (Goodreads)
Review:
Finally…a book not about vampires. I do love my vampire novels, but it felt so refreshing reading this book, and it had nothing to do with the vamps. Though it is another story of immortality. This book was a tall drink of water for me. Very different and so well written. I am very happy to have discovered Amy Plum. This is her first book and I think she did an excellent job.
Die For Me is actually about revenants. I loved ALL the characters in this book. There are so many and they really brought the story together. I absolutely fell in love with all the revenants. They are such the little family. Of course they have sworn enemies, as well. I think Plum can make this series very thrilling and new, since the world of revenants is a blank sheet!
The whole book was so unique, with so many plots out there being so repetitive. It takes place in Paris, and Plum really makes you feel like you are right there, walking the streets and seeing the scenery. Such description on the sights, the people, the stores, and of course the food! (No cheeseburgers and fries in this story!) I think I drooled a few times.
The story read so smoothly. I was glued from page one, and just couldn’t get enough. When I noticed I was getting to the last pages, I slowed reading, not ready for it to end. I ran straight to the computer to find out when the next one is coming out. (Hurry up Plum, I am very anxious!)
Being so original, it’s very hard to guess whats coming next. I really thought for the first half of the book, that Katie and Vincent were reincarnated or something. When I thought something was going to be a knock off from the common plot of the young adult genre, I was mistaken. Great chemistry between Katie and Vincent. I absolutely loved it.
The only similarities between this book and so many out there is the love story and undeniable connection between Katie and Vincent. But who doesn’t swoon over a good love story? A main reason women are so drawn to these books, is for the first and true love factor. Throw in a little drama and action, and you have a best seller.
I’m very excited about the next in this series. If you are looking for something new and non-vamp, then this is definitely worth a try. I highly recommend it!
